P4C

P4C stands for Philosophy for Children. It aims to develop children's thinking skills and questioning skills.

The staff are currently work with Nick Chandley, a national trainer and expert on P4C, to develop P4C throughout Woodlands Primary School.

Philosophy for Children (P4C) provides an education that emphasises community, communication and intelligent enquiry; it teaches a constructive attitude to all tasks and areas of life and we feel that it will provide the foundations that will equip and prepare Woodlands’ children  to be empowered, confident and positive citizens of a constantly evolving and ever changing world.

We are working hard to ensure P4C underpins a caring and questioning ethos, where children learn to listen to and respect one another and challenge and explore the beliefs and values of others, as well as developing their own views and making more deliberate and responsible judgements.

We encourage children to have an enquiring mind in all that they do and teach them the more advanced skills needed to succeed as readers and writers, mathematicians and scientists, geographers and historians; such as inference and deductions, and analysing and summarising evidence.

Philosophy for Children will results in confident children who are keen to share their ideas, express their beliefs and say what they feel is right.

Please look outside our classroom doors to see what we are thinking about each week in P4C.
